How GPA is calculated
Your Grade Point Average (GPA) is a weighted mean of your course grades. Each letter grade has a numeric value on a 4.0 scale. Your GPA reflects both how well you performed and how heavily each course was weighted in credits.
- Convert each letter grade to its grade-point value (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, …).
- Multiply by the course's credit hours to get quality points.
- Add quality points across all courses.
- Divide by the total credit hours attempted.
Example
A student earning an A (4.0) in a 3-credit course and a B (3.0) in a 4-credit course has a GPA of (4.0×3 + 3.0×4) ÷ (3+4) = 24 ÷ 7 ≈ 3.43.
Semester vs. cumulative GPA
Use the Semester tab to focus on a single term. Switch to Cumulative to combine every semester you've added — a great way to see how a strong (or weak) term moves your overall average.
